Reflexology is a science that sustains the belief that reflexes or areas in the hands, feet and other parts of the body relate to organs and structures in the body. A reflex is an area that when stimulated will create an involuntary response in another area of the body. When reflexologists approach the hands, feet and ears they see in these a replication of the body on a very small surface. By applying pressure on the reflexes of the hands, feet and ears they stimulate the corresponding organs and balance the bodies energy flow. Reflexology is a holistic, non invasive therapy where the patients emotions, soul and physical body are treated as a whole. Reflexology treatments do not strive to heal specific symptoms that the patient might experience (for example a bad shoulder) but to improve the overall well-being of the patient so that the body can strive to heal from deep within.

Benefits of Reflexology

Stress is a very individual perception of a particular situation. Not every situation will be perceived as stress depending on the person that is experiencing it. Therefore stress is not always a negative factor it may sometimes even be necessary and welcome. Some people are not aware that a particular situation is causing them stress, some people are aware of it but continue to be exposed to it. When stress persists over a longer period of time it will induce illness.

Stress is a natural response to an actual or perceived threat to the homeostasis in our body. This threat my come from external factors (for example someone pointing a gun at us) but may also be induced by internal factors (such as psychological changes or illness). Whatever the stress factors if the source of stress is not dealt with in a short period of time stress itself will start becoming harmful to our body and induce homeostatic imbalances.

Coping with Stress

Nutrients are elements or compounds which contribute to our metabolism. We provide our body with nutrients from the food in our daily diet. Depending on the variety, quality and quantity of food we eat and our lifestyle, the diet will have direct consequences on the health of our body making it a major actor in a healthy life. Nutrition should be integral part of the healing process. Many homeostatic imbalances are related directly or indirectly to bad nutrition habits. Unfortunately the awareness of this factor amongst people is not developed so that most people continue to feed themselves on foods that are unhealthy for their metabolism. Nutrition deficiency is when the diet does not provide enough of one or more nutrients to our body so as to allow homeostasis or when the nutrients in our diet are either of poor quality or when imbalances in our body do not allow correct metabolism of these. Nutrition deficiency does not automatically result from “eating too little”. Some people who eat “plenty” or “enough” may suffer from deficiency because they are not eating the “right” things and/or are not leading a “healthy” life.
